Overcoming floods to give life
In the journey to fight for the lives of patients, many medical staff are not only dedicated to their profession but also willing to donate blood to save people. For them, it is a responsibility and sharing with patients who need help.
At the age of 46, Mr. Nguyen Quang Luoc, working at Phu Bai Ward Health Station (Hue City), has donated blood and platelets 68 times. For him, each blood donation is a memory of compassion and responsibility to the community.
At a time when the COVID-19 epidemic is developing complicatedly, he also overcame many difficulties to promptly donate blood to save people.
According to Mr. Luoc, those experiences help him feel more clearly the meaning of sharing.
Also working in the medical industry, Mr. Le Van Sy - testing technician at Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital - has donated blood and platelets 51 times.
When he received an urgent request to prepare blood for the patient, he immediately registered to donate platelets. Thanks to receiving nearly 30 units of blood and blood products, the young mother overcame the critical condition.
Blood donation - a way to repay life after events
Teacher Nguyen Mau Hung, working at Tran Quang Dieu High School (Quang Ngai), has donated blood 53 times since 2004. However, the biggest motivation for him to stick with this activity comes from family upheavals.
Many years ago, his daughter suddenly had a stomach bleeding and needed emergency blood transfusions. Because he had just donated blood before, and his wife was often short of blood, both could not donate blood to save their child. In despair, he posted a plea for help on social networks. That very evening, a group of young people left the fun, traveling more than 30km to the hospital to donate blood for his daughter.
For Ms. Nguyen Thi Nham - a kindergarten teacher in Me Linh (Hanoi) - blood donation is a journey of gratitude. In 2011, her husband suffered from blood clotting syndrome and was treated for many months at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. During that time, she deeply felt the dedication of doctors and the sharing of strangers blood donors. Although her husband did not survive, the donated blood units brought her family more time and hope.
After the loss, she decided to return to the place where her husband was treated to continue spreading the good things she had received.
Spreading noble gestures
Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that blood donation is not only a medical activity but also a symbol of compassion, sharing and humanity. Strangers can "share a common bloodline" in a very special way, contributing to saving millions of patients across the country.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion - said: International Blood Donor Day is an occasion to show gratitude to those who have shared blood to save people. He assessed that the voluntary blood donation movement has created a major change in social awareness, helping Vietnam basically overcome the blood shortage during peak periods such as summer and Tet. According to him, maintaining blood reserves is still particularly important because the demand for treatment and emergency care is always high.
