According to Mr. Le Tran Anh Thi, this is a suitable solution for the reality of emergency care in the community. Many cases of people swimming or elderly people in the Nha Trang area may experience sudden cardiac arrest.
Victims often have symptoms of sudden collapse and cyanosis. If not treated promptly, this condition can be life-threatening.
In the past year, the 115 Emergency Center received many emergency calls related to cases of cardiac arrest.
From this reality, in addition to improving the quality of operation of the 115 Emergency Center, propaganda and guidance for people to perform first aid are also identified as one of the goals to be focused on.
Up to now, the Standing Committee of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee has mobilized external resources, supported the health sector with 600 million VND to implement the community first aid training program and automatic defibrillation machine (AED).
The purchase and delivery of AED devices to public places is being implemented urgently. Mr. Le Van Khoa - Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health - assessed that the device will only be truly effective when someone knows how to use it correctly.
Therefore, the program is implemented with two related contents: bringing defibrillation machines to the community and training non-professional emergency responders.
People, tourists will be community doctors
The combination of AED equipment and non-professional rescue forces is expected to help people and tourists have more ability to support victims while waiting for professional medical forces to approach.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tu - a tourist from Dak Lak said that equipping the community with first aid skills is very necessary, especially in crowded places such as beaches, airports, train stations, and schools.
According to this tourist, when a sudden health incident occurs, the time waiting for an ambulance can make the witness confused if they are not equipped with basic knowledge.
Regarding the opinion that while some places still lack clean water, electricity or other essential needs, investing in automatic defibrillation machines is not necessary, a resident in Nha Trang said that social needs should not be placed in opposition to each other.
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Linh - a resident of Nam Nha Trang ward, said that clean water, electricity and essential works are all important, but saving human lives is also an urgent need.
A cardiac arrest incident can occur unexpectedly in a public place and then, emergency equipment placed near the scene can create more opportunities for the victim.
“It cannot be said that because there are still places lacking electricity and water, they do not invest in life-saving equipment. These issues need to be resolved in parallel.
AED devices are not for daily use, but when someone has cardiac arrest, the timely presence of the device can be very important," Ms. Linh said.
