Life always contains unpredictable risks. An accident, a surgery, or a prolonged treatment course can quickly drain the family's savings. For many workers, especially those with average and low incomes, medical expenses are still one of the biggest worries when illness suddenly knocks on the door.
Each step forward of health insurance policy receives special attention from the people. From July 1, 2026, many new regulations on health insurance officially take effect in the direction of expanding benefits for participants. It is noteworthy that outpatients outside the tuyến at basic or specialized hospitals are paid 50% of the benefit level according to benefits by the health insurance fund. For example, 100% beneficiaries are paid 500,000 VND, 80% beneficiaries are paid 400,000 VND for examination costs of 1 million VND.
For cases of medical examination at the right tuyến with costs below 379,500 VND (15% of the base salary), health insurance pays the full amount. Non- tuyến examination is paid according to the law and calculated directly on the total cost, helping to reduce the amount of money patients have to pay themselves.
The base salary increase to 2.53 million VND/month also increases health insurance benefits: Patients are paid 100% of the costs if one examination costs less than 379,500 VND; people who have participated in health insurance continuously for 5 years or more are entitled to 100% of the costs within the scope of benefits when the amount paid together in the year exceeds 15.18 million VND.
Health insurance pays for medical equipment costs up to 113.85 million VND per one-time technical service and provides clearer regulations on direct payment in special cases.
These changes can help patients reduce hospital fees by a few hundred thousand or a few million VND. But looking broader, it is social risk sharing for each person when unfortunately sick. This is not only financial support but also a guarantee so that patients can feel secure in pursuing the treatment process.
A worker does not have to borrow money to pay hospital fees. A family does not have to sell assets accumulated for many years just to treat their loved ones. An elderly person can rest assured to have regular health check-ups without hesitation about costs. That is the core value that HI aims for.
Of course, people still expect the quality of medical examination and treatment to be increasingly improved, administrative procedures to continue to be simplified, and the situation of drug and medical supplies shortages to be thoroughly overcome. These expectations are completely legitimate, because health insurance is not only a financial health policy but also one of the important pillars of the social security system.
Although the health insurance card is small, its value is most clearly felt in difficult times for each family. Every time policies are adjusted in the direction of expanding benefits, people not only see shared hospital fees there, but also feel the companionship of the social security system in efforts to protect health and reduce the burden on the community.
