From July 1, 2025, the new Ho Chi Minh City Health Sector will have 2 branches and 124 public service units, including 32 general hospitals, 28 specialized hospitals, 11 bed-free centers, 15 social protection centers, and 38 regional health centers.
For health stations: The existing 443 health stations of wards and communes will continue to perform their current tasks and functions to avoid disrupting initial health care activities for people, within 60 days (according to the project approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee). The Department of Health will convert to 168 ward and commune health stations corresponding to new wards and communes and 296 health stations.
For health centers: 38 old district and county health centers (17 with hospital beds, 21 with no hospital beds) will be converted into 38 regional health centers, in charge of 168 commune and ward health stations. In particular, the 4 inpatient-yship medical centers of the old Ho Chi Minh City (including the medical centers of Districts 3, 5, 10 and Can Gio district) will be converted into regional medical centers without beds. The Department of Health assigns directors of health centers to prioritize increasing medical human resources, especially doctors, to new ward and commune health stations and health points. Next, the existing inpatient beds of medical centers (Districts 3, 5, 10 and the old Can Gio district) will be converted to suitable types to meet the needs of medical examination and treatment for people in the city.
For the 115 emergency system: Currently, there is 1 115 Emergency Center and 45 satellite emergency stations, but they are mainly in the existing area. In the coming time, the City Health Department will continue to expand the network of satellite emergency stations to ensure coverage of the entire new Ho Chi Minh City area.
For the system of medical examination and treatment facilities: The new city will have 162 hospitals, including 12 hospitals under ministries and branches, 32 general hospitals, 28 specialized hospitals, and 90 non-public hospitals.
