Combining three types of drinks brings outstanding benefits
A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition shows that drinking seven to eight cups of coffee, tea and water per day can help prolong life. Research that followed more than 182,000 adults over 13 years found that the combination of coffee, tea, and water improves overall health better than drinking just one.
A rate of two to three cups of coffee or tea per day is considered to provide the highest protection effect. However, research has only proven a link but has not determined the direct cause between drinking this drink and longevity.
According to Ms. Samantha M. Coogan, a nutritionist and senior lecturer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (USA), this result is very encouraging, but relying on the 24-hour portion-playing method can cause data to be distorted, as participants can easily remember the amount of drinks they have consumed by mistake.
Caffeine does not cause dehydration and can support long-term health
Ms. Joan Salge Blake, a nutrition professor at Boston University (USA), said that coffee and tea are still included in the daily water intake, despite the mild diuretic effect. Caffeine does not cause significant dehydration if used in moderation, she emphasized.
In addition to its ability to rehydrate, coffee also helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, liver disease and some types of cancer. Blake believes that because coffee is plant-based, it is rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals, which are also found in vegetables and fruits.
Meanwhile, Coogan added: Coffee contains flavonoids, while tea is rich in catechin, the two groups of compounds combined will enhance the protection of cells and the heart.
Experts recommend adding low-fat milk to coffee or tea to supplement calcium, potassium and vitamin D, important nutrients that are often lacking in modern diets.
Maintaining the habit of drinking coffee, tea and water in moderation not only helps the body stay hydrated but can also contribute positively to your health and longevity.
