On November 15, in Da Nang, Vietnam hosted the 23rd Conference of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrinology Associations (HE 23rd ASEAN FEDERation OF ENDOCRINE SOCIetiES CONGRESS, 2025 - The 23rd AFES 2025) - the region's most prestigious scientific event in the field of Endocrinology - Diabetes - Trans fats.
The conference was organized by the Vietnam Association of Endocrinology & Diabetes (Vade) in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Federation of Endocrinology Associations (AFES), with more than 270 reports and nearly 100 international reporters.
The conference gathered more than 500 international delegates and more than 1,200 domestic delegates, including professors, doctors, scientists and leading experts in the region and the world.
According to statistics from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), there are currently more than 589 million adults in the world living with diabetes, and this number is expected to increase to 853 million people by 2050.
In Vietnam, the rate of diabetes and metabolic disorders has tripled over the past 20 years, with an estimated more than 5.7 million adults infected with the disease, nearly half of whom have not been diagnosed. Along with that, thyroid diseases, obesity, dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome are increasingly common, creating a great burden on the health system and society.
In that context, the AFES 2025 Conference is held with the goal of strengthening regional cooperation, sharing knowledge and updating the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and management of endocrine - metabolic diseases, while promoting the application of digital technology in modern medicine.
With the theme " Endocrinological diseases, Diabetes, Metabolism and Digital Technology", the Conference focuses on exploiting the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud computing to improve management efficiency, prevention and patient health care.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Dang - Chairman of the Southeast Asian Federation of Endocrinology Associations, Chairman of the Vietnam Endocrinology & Diabetes Association said that AFES 2025 is not only a place to meet and share expertise, but also a bridge for cooperation between countries in the region.
"We expect this year's conference to contribute to promoting scientific research, training specialized human resources, and applying technological achievements to improve the quality of health care for Southeast Asian people in the digital age," said Mr. Dang.
