On July 10, representatives of the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund, in coordination with local authorities of Quoi An commune, Vinh Long province, came to present support money to two figures that had been reported in Lao Dong Newspaper.
In a small house in the countryside of Quoi An, Le Minh Luan (26 years old) was moved when receiving an amount of VND 27,910,000 from readers near and far sent back after the article: "26-year-old boy struggling with kidney failure, old mother borrowing money from everywhere and selling all his assets" published in the Golden Heart column, Lao Dong Newspaper.
Luan said that he used to work in Ho Chi Minh City, but after the Lunar New Year 2025, he had a stroke in the restroom and was taken to the emergency room and discovered to have end-stage chronic kidney failure. Since then, he has had physical pain, and his body is increasingly exhausted due to anemia and dyslipidemia.
The disease has not only disrupted all work and future plans, but also caused the mother and daughter to fall into misery. The old mother had to borrow money from everywhere and gradually sell her assets to treat her only son.
"I just hope to recover quickly so I can go to work and take care of my mother. I have worked hard all my life, I want to have the opportunity to be a beggar - Mr. Luan emotionally shared.
When receiving nearly 28 million VND from readers, the young man sent his sincere thanks: "Thank you to readers of Lao Dong Newspaper, thank you to the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund for giving me and my mother hope to live and overcome the most difficult period in life".
On the same day, representatives of the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund visited and presented 4,950,000 VND to Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh (born in 1965), the character in the article "Sickness, collapsed house, the old lady still tries to raise two orphaned children to study".
Ms. Chinh has been sick for many years, had to undergo two surgeries and currently owes nearly 20 million VND for treatment. Her husband - with heart disease - still tries to work for hire to support his family. The hardship became more severe when her son and her husband died early, leaving behind two orphaned grandchildren, one of whom is currently in grade 12, the other is a student at Vinh Long University of Technical Education.
Despite having health insurance and receiving rice support and loans from the locality for students, for the elderly couple, without land for production, and without a stable income, life is still very difficult. When receiving support from readers of Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Chinh choked up as she sent her thanks to the kind-hearted people who have shared their love in the most difficult time for her family.
At the gift-giving ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Mon Em - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoi An commune - expressed his deep gratitude to the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund and readers from near and far for their attention and timely support to the difficult circumstances in the area. He said that the locality always tries to care for the disadvantaged, but resources are still limited, and it is in great need of the cooperation of organizations, individuals and press agencies.
"We really hope that the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund will continue to accompany, spread love, and help many more difficult, lonely, and unfortunate lives to rise up in life" - Mr. Mon Em emphasized.
