Baby Vu Ngoc Uyen in Bao Nhai commune, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province has just undergone her 5th surgery after a traffic accident. Even though the 9-year-old girl was still tired after surgery, she kept asking her grandmother: "Grandma, did I cut my arm? If I lose my arm, how can I go to school and write?"
Hearing her granddaughter's heart-wrenching questions, Mrs. Doan Thi To (57 years old) quickly turned away to wipe away her tears. Looking at Uyen's condition at this time, she felt even more sorry for her because she was at a disadvantage without her father's caring hands.
According to Ms. To, Uyen's parents divorced in 2017. Uyen's mother is Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, formerly a teacher. 3 years ago, Ms. Loan often fainted and had seizures. She went to many doctors but could not find the cause.
After being examined by the Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology, Ms. Loan was diagnosed by a doctor as being infected with stage 2 pork tapeworm larvae. That same year, the doctor diagnosed her with seronegative arthritis. count. This is an autoimmune disease that affects the joints, causing constant pain, swelling and stiffness. Every month, the single mother still has to go to Bach Mai Hospital for treatment while she is currently off work and has no income.
Since Ms. Loan got sick, her family's finances have become even more difficult. Misfortune struck her and her mother again on June 28. On the way to extra school, Uyen suddenly had a traffic accident. The car ran over the right arm of a little girl who was about to enter 4th grade.
Immediately after that, the child was taken to the provincial hospital for emergency treatment. However, Uyen's injury was too severe and was quickly transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, the doctor found that Uyen's right hand was crushed, her brachial artery was severed, and her collarbone was broken. Even though Uyen has been treated actively by doctors and has undergone 5 surgeries so far, Uyen's condition is still not very satisfactory. The brachial artery has not yet been able to recover to feed blood vessels. It is expected that Uyen will have her 6th surgery in the next few days to find a chance to keep her arm.
"For more than a month now, I've been in the hospital taking care of my child, going through 5 surgeries, always praying that the doctors can keep my child's arm," Ms. To choked up.
Mrs. To's current concern is not only her granddaughter's health but also the burden of treatment costs. When she took him to the hospital, she borrowed 30 million VND from relatives, but just moving him to the central level cost tens of millions of VND.
Uyen's treatment is long-term and requires many medications that are not covered by insurance. Mrs. To could only encourage her granddaughter that the doctors would heal her arm so she could continue to go to school and write like her friends.
Talking to reporters from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Luong Van Nam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bao Nhai commune (Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province) said - the case of Vu Ngoc Uyen having an accident and being treated makes everyone feel sorry for him. .
My family's situation was difficult when my parents divorced, and my mother and I lived with my grandparents. Since last year, Uyen's mother has had poor health and had to take time off work to go to the hospital for a checkup. Due to her mother's poor health, only her grandmother in Hanoi is currently taking care of her grandchild.
“We are contacting the Red Cross Fund and the Children's Fund to ask for support. We hope that volunteer organizations and benefactors will share and help so that Uyen will have the best chance of treatment and get healthy soon," Chairman of Bao Nhai Commune People's Committee expressed.
