LD25085: The pain overlaps the pain of the Thai ethnic man fighting cancer

Hà Lê |

Mr. Lo Van La (33 years old, Thai ethnic group, from Lai Chau) is struggling with recurrent liver cancer in a state of exhaustion, a near-poor family, and a son with a serious illness.

Lying on a bed in the Oncology and Surgery Department, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Mr. Lo Van La (33 years old, Thai ethnic group, from Khoen On commune, Lai Chau province) was skinny and painful every day due to cramps in the abdomen. On the sunny face of a man who has been farming all his life is the tired, resigned look after so many losses and misfortunes.

Mr. Lo Van La became thin every day due to the sharp pain in his abdomen.

3 years ago, Mr. La was diagnosed with liver cancer. At that time, the whole poor family only relied on a few hectares of rice fields, still deciding to borrow money from everywhere to take him for surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery in 2023 helped him temporarily save his life, but also pushed his family into debt with a bank loan of 100 million VND.

It was thought that the eczema had passed, but the disease did not give up. Recently, Mr. La has had a severe abdominal pain, the tumor in the abdominal walls is getting bigger, causing prolonged pain and discomfort. Doctors diagnosed him with recurrent liver cancer (HCC) after surgery, forcing him to be transferred to Huu Viet Duc Hospital for further treatment in a state of exhaustion.

Mr. La's family is a near-poor household, living on par with each other. The couple were the main breadwinners, but now both are exhausted. Mr. La is suffering from stomach cancer and often has to be hospitalized for treatment.

The pain did not stop there. His youngest son was murdered 2 years ago while hanging out with a friend, leaving a lasting obsession for the whole family. The eldest son, just 16 years old this year, had a serious traffic accident 6 months ago and is still unable to walk and needs regular care.

"My family now has nothing to sell, and nothing to mortgage. I just hope to have enough money for treatment to live another day or that day...", Mr. La said choking up, then turned to the wall to hide the tears.

The cost of cancer treatment is prolonged, while the old debt has not been paid, causing his family to fall into a deadlock. His wife takes care of her husband who is seriously ill, and takes care of his bedridden son, and has to bear the worry of her father-in-law who is old and weak and sick.

In the midst of a large hospital, the Thai man was struggling with cancer and his fate was so cruel that day by day his family became more exhausted.

According to the Department of Social Work (Viet Duc Friendship Hospital), the family is in a particularly difficult situation, while the cost of treatment ahead is still very high. Any help, no matter how small, is an extremely valuable source of encouragement for this difficult situation. We hope that readers and philanthropists will help, so that Mr. Lo Van La has more opportunities to continue treatment, preserve his life and so that the poor family in the mountainous area of Lai Chau does not have to completely collapse due to the great losses.
