Phu Tho - Husband suddenly passed away, young female worker suddenly became a widow, raising two young children alone, carrying a debt of nearly 1 billion VND on her shoulders.

Heavy burden of people left behind

In recent days, a mourning atmosphere has enveloped the small house of Ms. Duong Thi Tam (born 1993), in zone 2, Hien Quan commune, Phu Tho province, when Ms. Tam suddenly lost her pillar husband - Mr. Nguyen Cao Ben (born 1985) due to sudden death.

Ms. Tam is a worker at Phu Ha Industrial Park. And Mr. Ben, born and raised in Minh Duc carpentry village (Hien Quan commune), works as a carpenter at home like many people in the village.

With the desire to escape poverty, the couple borrowed money from relatives, mortgaged 2 red books at the bank (including the older brother's book), borrowed more than 1 billion VND to build a house and buy a truck to transport thuê carpentry goods.

However, after only a short time, disaster struck. On March 17, 2026, Mr. Ben suddenly passed away, the truck that still diligently rolled daily, bringing income to the family, had to be sold to pay off debts.

However, the money from selling the car was insignificant, the total debt still amounted to 900 million VND (800 million VND in bank debt, 100 million VND in relatives' debt).

The passing of her husband, the pillar father, completely devastated Ms. Tam, now all the burdens of debt and children are falling on the shoulders of the young widow.

I work as a worker, my salary is about 8 - 9 million VND/month, just enough to pay monthly interest. Now my husband is gone, I am really in a deadlock, I am just afraid that the bank will seize the house, and my three children and I will not know where to go," Ms. Tam choked up.

Ms. Tam's child, in addition to her first daughter who is 10 years old this year, and a 2-year-old boy, is still too young to understand the pain of losing her father. Every night, the youngest child still cries for her father, the heartbreaking cry makes witnesses unable to hold back their tears.

Need joint support from the community

Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong (born 1979) - Mr. Ben's older brother - could not help but be shocked and heartbroken when witnessing the passing of his younger brother. But what Mr. Cuong is more worried about is that the life of Ms. Tam and her 3 children will be extremely difficult, and the future of the children is threatened by the burden of debt.

We are blood relatives, very heartbroken, everything happened too suddenly. Now Ben's funeral is over, but the future of the three mothers and children will be very difficult, I hope philanthropists will do good deeds, support the three mothers and children to overcome adversity" - Mr. Cuong said emotionally.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan - a resident of area 2, Hien Quan commune - recounted: "Ben is a gentle, kind young man, the villagers love him very much, there has never been a funeral of anyone so crowded before. Everyone is heartbroken and cannot hold back tears.

Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan - Vice Chairman of Hien Quan Commune People's Committee - said that from a peaceful family, in just a moment, Ms. Duong Thi Tam became a widow, carrying debts on her shoulders and raising two young children without any way to manage to pay off the huge debt.

Currently, Ms. Tam's family needs the joint efforts and help of philanthropists to overcome the difficult period. All support, even the smallest, will be a source of encouragement, helping Ms. Tam and her three children have more opportunities to stabilize their lives and continue to move forward" - Mr. Thuan shared.
