These days, the small house of Mrs. Dang Thi Nhieu's family (born in 1963, Tran Phu village, Tan Hung commune, Hung Yen province) is immersed in anxiety as both husband and wife are fighting against dangerous diseases.
In 2023, her husband, Mr. Tran Van Nghia (born in 1961), was diagnosed with colon cancer. Although doctors prescribed treatment and radiation therapy at K Tan Trieu Hospital, due to extremely difficult circumstances and limited funds, treatment had to be interrupted many times. Currently, Mr. Nghia's health is very weak, almost unable to work.
Previously, he had worked in the economy far from home for many years, then returned to his hometown to start a family with Ms. Nhieu. The couple only had one son, Tran Minh Duc (born in 2001). After completing his military service, Duc still did not have a stable job, so he did not have income to help his parents.
Throughout the years her husband was ill, all family burdens fell on Ms. Nhieu's shoulders. Although she was over 60 years old, she still did all kinds of freelance jobs, doing whatever she was hired to do to have money to cover living expenses and take care of medicine for her husband.

Tragedy continued to fall on June 12, 2026. While working, Ms. Nhieu felt nauseous, exhausted and then fainted. However, she still tried to continue working until she could no longer stand it, then called her husband to take her to the hospital. From Hung Yen General Hospital, she was urgently transferred to Bach Mai Hospital in critical condition.
Doctors determined that she had a myocardial infarction, complications of circulatory arrest, requiring emergency treatment. After more than a week of intensive treatment at Bach Mai Hospital, she was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases to continue monitoring and treatment. Currently, she is still on a ventilator, her health is very weak and she is waiting for surgery with an estimated cost of about 120 million VND - an amount exceeding the family's ability.
Now I am sick, I can't do anything. My wife is in critical condition, and my child has not yet had a stable job. I just hope my wife can overcome this moment..." - Mr. Nghia choked up sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper.

According to Mr. Tran Van My - Director of Quyet Thang Cooperative, Tran Phu village - who is also a neighbor of the family, Ms. Nhieu and her husband's situation has always been particularly difficult in the locality for many years. Knowing that Ms. Nhieu fell ill while her husband was still being treated for cancer, he stood up to call on people and philanthropists to join hands to help the family have more funds for treatment.
The family situation is very pitiful. Her husband has had cancer for many years, now the wife - the only pillar of the family - is in critical condition. We only hope that philanthropists will care and share so that Ms. Nhieu has the opportunity to be treated and overcome the danger" - Mr. My said.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Trung Hieu - Secretary of the Party Cell of Tran Phu village - said that Ms. Dang Thi Nhieu's family is one of the households in particularly difficult circumstances in the locality. Previously, she and her husband worked diligently, in addition to farming, they also raised cows to develop the economy, life was not well-off but stable.
Since Mr. Nghia was diagnosed with cancer nearly 3 years ago, all burdens have fallen on the family's shoulders. To have money for treatment, the couple had to sell all the cows in turn, and the assets accumulated for many years were gone.
After a long period of treatment, the family's economy is almost exhausted. Currently, the source of livelihood depends only on the rice field and the jobs that everyone hires to do" - Mr. Hieu shared.
According to Mr. Hieu, when Mr. Nghia had not recovered, Ms. Nhieu became seriously ill, making the family's life even more deadlocked: "The locality really hopes that philanthropists, organizations, and individuals will join hands to help so that the family has more conditions to treat the disease and overcome this difficult period.
In the midst of suffering from two dangerous diseases at the same time, Ms. Dang Thi Nhieu's family is falling into extreme poverty. They really hope to receive the joint efforts of philanthropists and the community so that Ms. Nhieu has more opportunities to regain her life, continue to be with her husband and children and overcome the upheaval with her family.
