Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will face off in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon (January 21).
Djokovic is aiming for his 11th title at the Australian Open, while Alcaraz will become the youngest player to win all four Grand Slams if he wins this tournament.
Djokovic leads the 21-year-old 4-3 and has won both matches on hard courts. Their most recent meeting was in the Paris Olympics final, where the Serb won to complete his goal of a gold medal at the Games.
The most memorable encounter on hard court was the 2023 Cincinnati Open final, which Djokovic won 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(7) in a tense 3 hours and 49 minutes. It was the longest 3-set final in ATP Masters 1000 history (since 1990).
Alcaraz has never won back-to-back against Djokovic, but the Serb has won twice in a row, at Cincinnati and the Nitto ATP Finals in 2023. The 24-time Grand Slam champion will take home his 100th career title if he wins in Melbourne.
The showdown will also mark an interesting meeting between two former world No. 1s, Andy Murray and Juan Carlos Ferrero, as they coach Djokovic and Alcaraz respectively.
