Carlos Alcaraz will not win a Grand Slam
It can be said that the 2022 season on the ATP Tour is Alcaraz's, when he won 5 titles, including 2 Masters and US Open, and became the youngest No. 1 in ATP history. With strong shots and physical strength, Alcaraz is almost certainly a factor worth watching for many years to come.
In 2022, from outside the Top 30, Alcaraz defeated opponents such as Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, with the dominance of world tennis affirmed, it seems that it has not been established.
Djokovic will be stronger in 2023, Nadal will return, Zverev will be the same if he is fit after injury, Daniil Medvedev will fight, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, Holger Rune or Jannik Sinner... can rise.
Few people doubt that Alcaraz will win more Grand Slam titles in his career, but what about 2023? He missed the Australian Open due to injury. At the French Open, will Nadal, Djokovic or Zverev be surpassed? Alcaraz has little experience on the pitch at Wimbledon, while the US Open was full of surprises.
So don't be shocked if Alcaraz doesn't win any other major trophies in 2023.
Another member of the Big 4 group will retire
Roger Federer has retired, who is next? Maybe Djokovic's time is not yet yet, but Nadal and Andy Murray seem to be close to the end. Nadal revealed in September 2022 that he had almost retired after winning the 14th French Open.
He continued to play, but since the 2022 US Open, injuries have plagued him. Most recently, a hip injury forced him to rest for about 8 weeks. If the problem continues, Nadal could consider "mentoring".
Murray faces an important season. He had some encouraging results in 2022 but ended poorly, so he felt disappointed with his performance. If he cannot step up to another level in 2023, it is not surprising that the Scot will hang up his racket.
A Canadian Tennis player will enter the Grand Slam final
The Canadian tennis player is currently in good form. The men's tennis players - led by the Top 20 duo Denis Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime - won the ATP Cup in 2022 along with their first Davis Cup. Auger-Aliassime also ended the season impressively with a series of 16 wins and won 3 titles.
Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime both showed potential at the Grand Slam when they reached the semi-finals. Auger-Aliassime lost at the Australian Open and French Open.
For female tennis players, former 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, and former 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez, both have the potential to return to the top. In particular, Andreescu could be a factor to watch in 2023 if he plays on a more complete schedule than in previous years.
It is very likely that a Canadian will get closer to - or win - a Grand Slam in the 2023 season.
Jack Draper will be number 1 in the UK
Draper's first season on the ATP Tour has been very encouraging. There were some important victories most notably against Taylor Fritz, Diego Schwartzman, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Auger-Aliassime and reaching the semi-finals at the Next Gen Finals in Milan.
Draper has shown that hand-to-hand delivery and land smashes are factors to compete with the best. Currently ranked 42nd on the world rankings, the question mark is whether he will still be fit enough to compete in the ATP Tour this week or not. If he can improve, Draper will climb further on the rankings in 2023.
Of course, reaching No. 1 in England could depend on the current No. 1 Cameron Norrie declining a bit. Norrie has outlined his ambition to become world No. 1 so there is no plan to slow down, but perhaps with the quality of many current players, he could drop a few places, opening up opportunities for Draper.
Amanda Anisimova will have a Grand Slam
A Grand Slam final is approaching for Amanda Anisimova, when she reached the semi-finals of the 2019 French Open Tennis Tournament and the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2022.
The 21-year-old has had a solid 2022 season, winning the Melbourne Summer Set in January and reaching the quarter-finals of several tournaments. Anisimova has a strong, dynamic playing style throughout the whole stadium.
In early 2022, she beat Belinda Bencic and Naomi Osaka in Melbourne before losing to Ashleigh Barty in the round of 16. She ended the season with a record of 4-3 against opponents in the Top 10 and a record of 9-8 against opponents in the Top 20.
Anisimova seems ready for a successful year if she can keep her health and make a few improvements to her match.
