Gurugram City Police (India) are investigating a serious murder case that occurred yesterday (September 10), when female tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot to death by her biological father at her home.
According to initial reports, the perpetrator, Deepak Yadav (49 years old) - the victim's biological father - used a gun to fire 5 consecutive shots at his daughter, of which 3 hit her, causing her to die on the spot.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m., when Radhika was preparing breakfast when he was suddenly attacked by his father from behind. The victim's uncle, Mr. Kuldeep Yadav - living on the ground floor of the house - recounted that he heard gunshots and rushed up to the floor.
"I saw my niece lying motionless in the kitchen, the gun was left on the floor of the living room. My son and I immediately took him to the hospital but the doctor confirmed he had died, Kuldeep told the police.
Radhika Yadav is a promising young tennis player, currently running his own tennis academy and has a significant number of followers on social media. However, it was her fame and success that were the driving force for the tragedy.
According to Deepak Yadav, he was often mocked by villagers in his hometown of Wazirabad, saying that he had to stick to his daughter and live on her fame.
Not only that, baseless speculations about Radhika's private life and image on social media made him feel ashamed and pressured.
"I told my child to stop working at the academy but he didn't listen. People say unpleasant words, even doubting his status. I can't stand it anymore," Deepak told the police.
The perpetrator's wife, Ms. Manju Yadav, was also present at the house at the time of the incident but refused to give an official statement. According to information from the police, she said she had a fever and had locked the door in her room during that time.
The incident is shocking the Indian public, especially in the sports community when a young female athlete prospected her death due to a conflict in her own family.
