NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

The Vietnamese gaming industry is affirming its important position in the digital economy, with an estimated revenue of 1.66 billion USD in 2025.

Impressive numbers

The growth rate of the Vietnamese gaming industry is estimated at 9.77% per year, reaching 2.42 billion USD in 2029.

With impressive growth rates, Vietnam is becoming one of the most dynamic gaming markets in Southeast Asia, ranked 5th in the region in terms of revenue and in the top 5 leading mobile game producers in the world in 2023, with 4.2 billion global downloads, 2.5 times higher than the world average, according to Bloomberg.

DataReportal's "Digital 2024: Vietnam" report also shows that in early 2024, Vietnam will have 78.44 million Internet users, accounting for more than 78% of the population, reflecting the popularity of digital activities, especially gaming.

In addition, the number of sports (esports) audiences in Vietnam has surpassed 10 million people, a sharp increase compared to 8.3 million in 2022, affirming the attraction and potential of the gaming industry in connecting the community and creating economic value.

International cooperation: The key to expanding the market

In the context of globalization, cooperation between international game companies and domestic game enterprises has become an important driving force, helping to optimize resources, share technology and expand the market.

big guys such as Roblox, Nexon, Tencent and Riot Games are stepping up their presence in Southeast Asia, taking advantage of Vietnams young, technologically knowledgeable human resources and potential domestic markets.

For example, Garena (under Sea Group) cooperated with Tencent to release Call of Duty: Mobile in Southeast Asia and Taiwan (China), creating a fever thanks to impressive graphics and attractive playing style. Similarly, the partnership between Tencent and Krafton since 2023 has helped PUBG Mobile increase its revenue in Asia by 15% within 6 months thanks to optimal technology, according to Tencent and Newzoo reports.

In Vietnam, many units are also expanding international cooperation. For example, VNGGames joined hands with Webzen and Kingnet in March 2025 to release VNG Geocomponent MU, bringing the game closer to players in the region.

Previously, in August 2024, this publisher also entered into a joint venture with NCSOFT (Korea) to establish NCV Games, exclusively issuing famous MMORPG titles such as Lineage 2M in 6 Southeast Asian markets.

These partnerships not only help domestic businesses diversify their product portfolio but also bring high-quality gaming experiences to local players, with support from a professional customer service team. This contributes to building a sustainable gaming ecosystem, where players are not only consumers but also members of the creative community.

Joining hands to build the value of the gaming industry

Currently, Vietnamese game businesses are playing a central role in connecting developers, players and the market. In addition to publishing, Vietnamese game businesses also focus on investing in game production, supporting young talents, and creating momentum to promote the development of the gaming industry.

According to Sensor Tower and Game Studio Vietnam club, games produced and distributed globally by Vietnam are estimated to bring in 200 million USD/year, demonstrating creativity and international competitiveness.

In general, the Vietnamese gaming industry, with rapid growth, strategic international cooperation, policy support and the pioneering role of businesses, is becoming a strong driving force for the digital economy.
