On August 22 (local time), according to Xinhua news agency, the Chinese Ministry of Irrigation activated emergency response level IV to the flood situation in Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan, in the context of Typhoon Narra being forecast to cause heavy to very heavy rain in the south of the country.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Irrigation, from August 22 to 24, Typhoon Narra will cause heavy to very heavy rain in the southern and western regions of Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan. Some areas may experience extremely heavy rain.
Water levels in some rivers in Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan are forecast to rise. The Ta Giang and Minh Giang rivers, the affluents of the Yu Giang River, and some medium and small rivers in areas affected by heavy rain may experience floods exceeding the warning level.
The Chinese Ministry of Irrigation requested local water resource management agencies to closely monitor the storm's developments, strengthen monitoring, forecasting and early warning of rain and floods, and ensure scientific operation of irrigation works.
This agency emphasizes proactively preventing flash floods and floods on medium and small rivers, ensuring reservoir safety during the flood season, and at the same time implementing measures to ensure safety for tourists and construction workers.
Functional agencies are required to regularly update the list of high-risk areas, promptly evacuate people from dangerous areas and make efforts to protect people's lives and property.
Also on August 22, the China National Administration of Flood and Drought Control and the Ministry of Emergency Management coordinated to activate emergency response level IV for storm and flood prevention in the southeastern area of Fujian province.
China applies a 4-level flood response system, of which level I is the most serious level.
