According to the latest weather news updated at 2:00 PM on August 4 (Philippines time) by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the low pressure area LPA 07f, formerly the Luis tropical depression, has officially dissipated after moving into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Meanwhile, a new low pressure area with the symbol LPA 08a is still operating inside PAR and PAGASA assesses that it is highly likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
On August 3, PAGASA assessed that LPA 08a is only unlikely to develop into a tropical depression or storm. However, changed atmospheric conditions have caused the Philippine meteorological agency to raise the warning level, showing that the possibility of tropical cyclone formation has increased significantly.
Besides the developments of the new low pressure area, Typhoon Dolphin is still being monitored by PAGASA when operating outside PAR.
According to the meteorological agency, although Typhoon Dolphin has not been forecast to enter PAR, the circulation of this typhoon may continue to strengthen the southwest monsoon (Habagat) in the coming days, increasing rainfall in many areas of the Philippines.
Previously, PAGASA warned that the southwest monsoon combined with the circulation of the above weather patterns could cause moderate to prolonged heavy rain in many localities, increasing the risk of localized flooding, flash floods and landslides, especially in mountainous and low-lying areas.
The Philippine meteorological agency recommends that people continue to closely monitor official weather forecasts to update the latest developments of LPA 08a as well as Hurricane Dolphin, and proactively implement response plans to minimize damage if the weather continues to worsen.
