Typhoon Higos approaches, southern China continues to struggle

Typhoon Higos is expected to bring heavy rains to southern China in the coming days.

The Hainan Provincial Department of Meteorology said that the tropical depression in the northeast of the East Sea had strengthened into a storm at 8:00 a.m. on August 18 - according to Xinhua.

The storm will make landfall in coastal areas from western Guangdong to northeastern Hainan tomorrow (August 19). The Meteorological Center said that the provinces of Hainan, Guangdong, Yunnan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will experience heavy rains on August 19.

To ensure the safety of the people, the Hai Nam Provincial Emergency Management Agency has issued a storm warning, requiring attack ships and other boats to return to the port.

Meteorologists have also warned relevant areas to take preventive measures and prevent disasters caused by storms. Tourists are advised not to go out during heavy rains and storms.
