The Nord Stream pipeline was destroyed to sell US gas to Europe and the truth about this shocking sabotage is being hidden, Mr. Lubos Blaha - a member of the European Parliament from Slovakia - said in an interview with TASS.
He said that Washington set a goal of gaining the European market for US liquefied natural gas. However, the main obstacle in achieving this goal is cheaper Russian gas, which is easier to supply.
"So if you want to sell US gas to European countries, what should you do? What needs to be done is to block all gas sources from Russia. First of all, they need to liquidate or eliminate Nord Stream. They did it," he said.
Everyone knows that the Americans themselves did it, but geopolitics sometimes lie hidden, added Lubos Blaha.
Mr. Blaha added that another gas pipeline carrying Russian gas to Europe is through Ukraine. However, Kiev has stopped the transit of Russian gas via this route.
The last viable pipeline to bring Russian gas to Europe is TurkStream. However, Mr. Blaha accused Ukraine of trying to organize attacks on the pipeline and that this caused damage to Europe.
"The European Union is an economic model based on cheap energy from Russia. Because of this, we face huge problems in economic competitiveness in the global economy.
Americans are buying gas for $18 a month. We are buying liquefied gas from the US for 50 USD. This is completely unsustainable and we will have an economic recession," the Slovakian lawmaker pointed out.
On September 27, 2022, the Nord Stream pipeline operator reported on unprecedented damage on September 26 to three of the four gas pipelines in the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 systems. Up to now, investigations have not been able to determine the culprit of the sabotage. It is also impossible to determine the duration of the resumption of operations of the gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany, according to TASS.
