Yen Bai - Many items in the At Thuong resettlement area, Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district have not been completed, causing people to worry every time there is heavy rain.

The project to resettle 35 households in At Thuong village, Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district (where the landslide caused by the circulation of storm No. 3 occurred, killing 9 people), started on November 18, 2024, with an area of over 2.3 hectares.

The resettlement area is divided into 2 phases. In particular, phase 1, Military Region 2 will support Yen Bai province to invest in the construction of a resettlement project for 35 households, which has been completed and handed over to the people for use on January 25, 2025.

This is a resettlement area built with the characteristic architecture of Tay ethnic stilt houses, each house has a total floor area of 130m2, floor area of 65m2 of house, with a first-floor toilet area. From afar, this resettlement area stands out on a hill with a terraced design, creating a beautiful landscape. However, when entering the reality inside, the lives of the people here still have many difficulties and worries.

In mid-March, present in At Thuong village, reporters recorded that more than 10 households had moved to live. Inside the resettlement area, many items such as roads and slopes have not been completed, and electricity and water must be used by the villagers.

Around the houses, many landslides have become ditches, some phosphorus tanks have floated to the ground after heavy rain on March 13. Some stilt houses have cracks, subsidence, forming deep holes with stagnant water. The mud and soil from the landslide formed a large pile around the house, causing mud, making travel difficult.

Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Hoang Thi Thang (in the At Thuong resettlement area, Minh Xuan commune) shared that when she first moved here, her family was very excited, because they had a new house to live in safety after the damage caused by storm No. 3, but were also worried because there was no electricity or water, and people's lives were still in many inconveniences.

After the heavy rain on the morning of March 13, the family was worried because the house was on a hill without a towing post, so when there was a lightning strike, they were very confused, strong winds passed, the rain squeezed in without any cover, some locations on the roof leaked, causing the floor to be wet.

Not to mention, heavy rain caused the land on the slope to slide, water flowed into a large stream and swept through the house foundations, damaging the floating tank, foundation, and house foundations. "I just hope that the relevant agencies will soon implement phase 2, complete the missing items and have a suitable plan to handle the shortcomings so that people can live with peace of mind," Ms. Thang added.

Currently, workers are reinforcing, repairing, and overcoming.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lo Van Hung - Director of the Luc Yen District Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the unit has completed the dossier to submit to the Provincial People's Committee on the plan to select a contractor for the second phase of the Project to resettle people in At Thuong village. Currently, we are waiting for the decision of the Provincial Party Committee to bid to select a contractor to soon implement the project.
