Yonhap reported that South Korean police were searching the office of President Yoon Suk Yeol on December 11.

Police raided the presidential office and police headquarters in South Korea as part of an investigation into President Yoon Suk-yeol's imposition of martial law, according to a South Korean news agency. Raids were also carried out at the offices of the Seoul Metropolitan Police and the National Assembly Police Force.

President Yoon Suk Yeol was not in the presidential office building when investigators arrived to collect documents related to his six-hour imposition of martial law last week.

South Korean law enforcement agencies are focusing on finding out whether President Yoon Suk Yeol and others involved in imposing martial law committed the crime of rebellion.

Earlier, also on December 11, former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun was arrested after a Seoul court approved an arrest warrant for him on charges of playing a key role in the uprising and abusing power.

Former Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun attempted suicide at a detention facility in eastern Seoul, Shin Yong Hae, the head of the detention facility, told lawmakers during a National Assembly hearing on Dec. 11.

He said that after his failed suicide attempt, Mr. Kim Yong Hyun is being held in a guarded cell and the health of the former South Korean Defense Minister is still stable.

Following the arrest of the former defense minister, National Police Agency chief Cho Ji Ho and Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief Kim Bong Sik were also detained for their roles during martial law.

The two police officials are being investigated for their role in deploying police forces to the South Korean National Assembly to prevent lawmakers from voting to lift President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law decree.

The developments came hours before the opposition Democratic Party introduced a new motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol while South Korean law enforcement agencies expanded their investigation into whether the president's declaration of martial law constituted an act of rebellion.

The first attempt to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol failed on December 7 when the ruling party boycotted the vote.
