Brazilian police confirmed on July 18 that they had launched a search under the order of the Brazilian Supreme Court.
Lawmakers in Bolsonaro's right-wing opposition party said the former president was asked to wear a tracking device around his ankle, stop using social media and stop contacting diplomats.
According to local media, the Brazilian Supreme Court's watchdog issued a watch for former President Bolsonaro stemming from the risk of him fleeing to the US.
Speaking to the press on July 18, Bolsonaro denied any intention to leave the country.
Lawmakers for the Liberals said Bolsonaro was also banned from contacting key allies, including his son, Eduardo, a Brazilian lawmaker.
Mr. Bolsonaro ruled the largest country in Latin America from 2019 to 2022. Former President Bolsonaro is being tried by the Brazilian Supreme Court on charges of a coup plot to prevent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office in January 2023.
