An important milestone in Vietnam - Hungary bilateral relations

On May 27, Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas and his wife began an official visit to Vietnam. The visit lasts until May 29 at the invitation of Politburo member and President Luong Cuong.

During the visit of Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas and his wife, Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Tibor Baloghdi answered an interview with VNA, stating that diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Hungary are built on a solid foundation of mutual respect, cooperation and a history of attachment. Since establishing diplomatic relations on February 3, 5, 5, 5, Hungary has always supported Vietnam in many fields.

"Up to now, the two countries have become important partners of each other and I believe that Vietnam also highly appreciates this relationship with Hungary. President Sulyok Tamas' official visit is an important milestone in bilateral relations, demonstrating a diplomatic commitment at the highest level," Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi said.

The Ambassador pointed out that over the past decades, cooperation between the two countries has developed strongly. Bilateral trade turnover has reached 1 billion USD, with a significant growth of 17% over the past year. Many Hungarian enterprises have been expanding their presence in Vietnam in fields such as pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, food, agriculture and defense industry.

Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi emphasized that the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2018 is an important step forward, demonstrating the commitment of both sides to strengthen cooperation in many fields, from trade, investment to education, health, science and technology.

The visit of Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Hungary in January 2024 has created strong momentum, reaffirming the commitment to strengthen economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two countries. Many important agreements were signed within the framework of this visit.

The visit of Hungarian Foreign Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto in March this year has contributed to improving the effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi emphasized that the deep historical connection between the people of the two countries is a sustainable foundation for bilateral relations. To further strengthen this relationship, the two sides need to promote cultural and educational exchanges. Hungary is committed to continuing to provide scholarships to Vietnamese students within the framework of the stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program, thereby attracting young talents from Vietnam.

He added that Hungary has been using nuclear energy for the past 50 years and is investing heavily in this field through the construction of a new nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, Vietnam is still considering the possibility of using nuclear energy, which opens up great opportunities for cooperation in training and transferring civil nuclear technology between the two countries.

Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi highly appreciated Vietnam's commitment to achieving development goals through knowledge-based growth and economic progress. "I believe that this approach will help improve Vietnam's global competitiveness and improve people's lives," said the Ambassador.

"We are ready to support Vietnam through joint research and development projects (some projects have now been implemented under scientific and technological cooperation agreements between the two countries), technology transfer programs and cooperation in education and training, including scholarships and academic exchanges. In addition, Hungary also wishes to promote cooperation with the private sector, contributing to promoting innovation and supporting Vietnam in the transition to a high-value economy, based on knowledge" - the Ambassador shared.
