Developments have not improved

Hạ Lang |

In name, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his agreement with the ceasefire proposal made by the US and Ukraine after talks in Saudi Arabia. But when listing a series of conditions both old and new, in fact, Mr. Vladimir Putin has no different from rejecting this proposal because those are all possible conditions for the US but Ukraine certainly cannot accept.

Mr. Vladimir Putin did not flatly reject this ceasefire proposal because he intentionally kept the image of US President Donald Trump and to encourage Mr. Donald Trump to continue to steadfastly adjust his policy view on Russia and Ukraine in the direction that the new US administration has shown in the recent past. But by raising many questions that the answers are not in the US-Ukraine ceasefire proposal, Mr. Vladimir Putin seems to have implicitly rejected the proposal without having to speak directly.

Therefore, the recent talks between the US and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia with the result that the above ceasefire proposal is only a new development, not a new progress related to finding a political solution to help end the war in Ukraine.

The new US administration has forced Ukraine to accept a ceasefire in exchange for US financial and military aid. But the US wants to stop the war while continuing to provide military and financial aid to Ukraine, the proposal to stop the war without following the next roadmap, and in the context of the EU's policy of increasing strongly armedmed forces as never seen before in the EU's history, the hesitant reaction and even Russia's disagreement are not difficult to understand, even impossible.

Russia's message is clear: the new US administration must negotiate with Russia first and then pressure Ukraine, the EU and NATO to accept the reached settlement with Russia, not agree with Ukraine, the EU or NATO first and then welcome Russia for their reached results. In this issue, developments and progress are very different and not every development is or brings back progress.
