A strong earthquake shook the area 42km north-northwest of Te Anau, New Zealand at 9:14 am GMT on July 16 (at 4:14 pm on the same day, Vietnam time).
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 76.4km, initially determined to be at latitude 45.04 degrees South latitude and longitude 167.61 degrees East longitude.
The US Geological Survey identified a magnitude of 5.9 earthquake, while the New Zealand National Emergency Management Agency identified a magnitude of 6.3 earthquake.
According to AFP, New Zealand has issued a tsunami warning after a strong earthquake.
