Prolonged heavy rain from July 15 to 16 caused serious landslides on many roads in Lai Chau province, causing traffic jams, and many road sections had to be closed to ensure safety.
According to records, on provincial road 127, at Km93+900 and Km95+900 in Bum To commune, about 14km from the commune center towards Can Ho cluster (old), a large amount of soil and rock from the positive slope suddenly slid down, completely burying the road surface.

The incident prevented vehicles from traveling through the area. Due to the continued rain, the risk of landslides continues to occur, posing risks to people and vehicles.
Immediately after the incident occurred, functional forces deployed barriers, planted warning signs, and arranged personnel and machinery to be on duty at the scene.
Soil and rock clearing will be carried out when weather conditions are safe. Up to now, DT127 route has not been able to be opened to traffic.
At the same time, at Km7 on DT131 route, the section from Then Sin commune to Sin Suoi Ho village (Sin Suoi Ho commune), heavy rain also caused landslides of soil and rocks onto the road surface. Functional forces have urgently handled it, ensuring temporary traffic.
Local authorities recommend that people limit traffic through landslide-prone areas, and closely monitor weather developments to promptly implement traffic safety measures.
Meanwhile, at Km76+250 on National Highway 12, the section passing through Chieng Chan village, Le Loi commune, a landslide swept away about 30m of roadbed, causing local traffic congestion. Functional agencies have temporarily banned all vehicles from passing through this location.
To ensure traffic flow, functional sectors have organized temporary traffic diversion. Accordingly, vehicles moving between Lai Chau and Dien Bien follow National Highway 12 to Km40 (Pa Tan commune area), turn into National Highway 4H in the direction of Pa Tan - Bum To, then continue to circulate to Km184+700 in Dien Bien province and vice versa.
For vehicles going to Nam Hang commune and vice versa, circulate along National Highway 12 to Km40, turn into National Highway 4H in the direction of Pa Tan - Bum To, to Km279 in Bum To commune, then turn into Provincial Road 127 to continue the journey.
Traffic diversion is applied from 8:30 am on July 16, 2026 and lasts until there is a new notice from functional agencies.
