On September 4, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that a 5.9-magnitude earthquake of richter occurred in the Chile - Argentina border area at 1:40 a.m. (local time), with a depth of about 176km.
The European-Meteorological earthquake center then recorded a depth of about 192km.
The center of the earthquake is located 91km southwest of San Antonio de los Cobres and 186km west-northwest of Salta, Argentina.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the earthquake did not cause significant damage, but about 1.3 million people living in neighboring areas could feel minor shaking in the eye area.
The USGS has issued a blue alert for casualties and economic damage related to the earthquake.
The possibility of casualties and damage is low but there is still a potential risk because many works in the earthquake-prone area are still classified as vulnerable works.
vulnerable works are mainly brick and mud houses and houses built with stone or crushed stone.
Not stopping there, earthquakes that have occurred in this area often cause secondary dangers such as landslides, which can contribute to causing damage, so the world's geological survey organizations still call on people to raise their vigilance.
A few days ago, on September 1-2, two consecutive earthquakes of equal strength of 5.9 on the Richter scale in eastern Afghanistan left behind significant damage, killing more than 1,400 people and injuring tens of thousands others and leveling many villages.
