On September 3 (local time), according to Xinhua news agency, the US is investigating information that an airstrike by this country hit a wedding party in Hormozgan province, southern Iran.
We are investigating because it is clear that we are interested. We want to know," US Vice President JD Vance said at a press conference at the White House.
According to the US Vice President, if the US military makes mistakes, Washington will try to learn from experience and improve operations. He said that this is the difference between the US and Iranian armies.
Spokesman for the US Central Command (CENTCOM) Tim Hawkins also confirmed that the US military is reviewing reports related to the attack.
According to Iranian media, the incident occurred on the evening of September 2 in Sirik district, Hormozgan province. A US missile is believed to have hit a house where dozens of people gathered to attend the wedding of a fisherman's daughter.
The attack killed at least 4 people and injured 68 others, according to Iranian sources.
Information about the incident appeared in the context of US military operations in Iran raising concerns about civilian casualties.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei criticized the attack on September 2, calling it "a desperate attempt by the US to hide its defeat".
Iran also cited another major casualty attack that occurred in February.
According to Iranian officials, on February 28, on the first day of the US-Iran conflict, an attack hit a primary school for girls in Minab city, southern Iran. The incident killed 168 people, mostly children.
Investigations later, according to Iran, showed that the weapon used in the attack was a US Tomahawk missile.
Regarding the latest incident in Sirik, the US is conducting an investigation to determine the cause and responsibility related to the airstrike that is believed to have hit a residential area.
