On August 10 (Philippines time), according to the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), tropical storm Peilou is operating outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and continues to be monitored for location, intensity and direction of movement.
According to updates at 8:00 AM on August 10, Typhoon Peilou is located about 2,765km east of the northernmost point of Luzon Island. The typhoon has maximum winds of 75 km/h, gusts up to 90 km/h and is trending east at a speed of 35 km/h.
Peilou was previously tracked by PAGASA as the low pressure area LPA 08c. The system then strengthened into a tropical depression before further developing into a tropical storm and was internationally named Peilou.
Currently, Peilou is still very far from the mainland and outside PAR. PAGASA continues to monitor the storm's developments. Because the system is moving rapidly and is still outside the forecast area, Peilou's direction and intensity may continue to change in the following bulletins.
Southwest monsoon (Habagat) continues to cause heavy rain
While Peilou is operating offshore, the southwest monsoon (Habagat) continues to be the main cause of rain in many areas on August 10.
PAGASA forecasts Habagat will cause rain in Luzon and the western Visayas region. Benguet, Zambales and Bataan may experience moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain at times. The weather agency warns of the risk of flash floods and landslides in these areas.
Metro Manila, the Ilocos region, the rest of the Cordillera administrative region, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro also had scattered rain due to Habagat's influence. Moderate to heavy rain could cause flash floods and landslides in some places.
Western Visayas and the rest of the Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur are forecast to be cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some areas may experience moderate rain, with heavy rain at times.
PAGASA forecasts that the northern and western Luzon areas will have strong winds in the southwest direction, causing rough seas. The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds, southwest direction, with moderate to strong rough seas.
In Visayas and Mindanao, winds are forecast to be moderate to strong, blowing south to southwest. The sea area in these areas may also be moderate to strong.
Currently, Peilou is still outside PAR, while Habagat continues to cause widespread rain. People are advised to follow the latest weather reports to update on the developments of the storm and the situation of heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides.
