Making international commitments a practical resource to serve national development

On the afternoon of August 21, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung chaired an inter-sectoral meeting on reviewing and urging the implementation of international commitments and agreements. Attending were leaders and representatives of ministries, branches, agencies, Hanoi People's Committee and functional units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that at the meeting, delegates highly agreed on the political significance and urgency of monitoring and urging the implementation of international commitments and agreements; affirmed the determination to strongly shift from focusing on signing to emphasizing the effectiveness of implementation, shortening the gap from commitments to actual results, and making commitments a practical resource to serve national development.

The meeting specifically reviewed the implementation of nearly 30 international commitments and agreements, key projects, which are of great significance to the country's socio-economic development. Reviews show that many commitments and projects have made positive progress in the past time. In addition, for projects that still have problems, representatives of ministries and sectors have agreed and proposed specific solutions and directions for resolution.

The meeting also recorded positive changes in inter-sectoral coordination in the past time. The review and urging mechanism has gradually become regular; many agencies have proactively and actively updated complete information on the System to monitor international commitments and agreements on digital platforms; the work of summarizing, sharing information and coordination between agencies is increasingly close and substantive.

In that spirit, ministries, branches, and agencies have agreed to continue to strengthen coordination, clearly define responsibilities, and minimize overlap; improve the quality of reports in the direction of assessing the actual progress and results and promptly removing difficulties and obstacles; proactively review and not miss out on commitments, agreements and key projects; and at the same time urgently prepare contents to effectively serve high-level foreign affairs activities in the coming time. Delegates also agreed on the motto of ensuring harmony of interests, focusing on quality and feasibility in implementing commitments.

Speaking at the meeting, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung highly appreciated the spirit of responsibility and active coordination of agencies; requested ministries and sectors to continue to improve enforcement discipline, promote the responsibility of heads and managers according to results with the requirement of "clear presiding agency, clear responsibility, clear progress, clear results".

Minister Le Hoai Trung said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to improve the framework and general coordination mechanism; promote the role of the Standing Agency of the Central Steering Committee for Foreign Affairs and International Integration and the network of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to accompany and support ministries, branches, and localities to promote the effective implementation of international commitments and agreements.

The meeting continued to affirm the consensus and determination of the agencies in improving the effectiveness of implementing international commitments and agreements, contributing to mobilizing external resources to serve the country's rapid and sustainable development and enhance Vietnam's international position and prestige.
