RT reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the EU has failed in its policy on the Ukrainian conflict, while Washington is actively negotiating with both Moscow and Kiev to end the conflict.
Last week, Hungary refused to support the EU's joint statement on Ukraine after the European Council meeting in Brussels ( Belgian). The document reaffirms the EU's tough stance on the conflict, while pledging to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine.
In an interview with Kossuth, Mr. Orban used the phrase "disorientation" to describe the current situation when asked to assess the EU's strategy for Ukraine as well as the post-conflict period.
The Hungarian leader warned that Europe is at risk of falling into a situation where everything is done, stressing that the EU will not even need any more deals that the US can reach.
The Hungarian Prime Minister also reiterated his statement that the EU would be put on the sidelines if it maintained its stance in support of the conflict and did not build an independent policy.
According to RT, the Hungarian government has long criticized the EU's approach to the Ukrainian conflict, saying that current policies not only cannot help end the war but also cause further losses to member states.
Mr. Orban called on EU leaders to adjust the bloc's viewpoint to suit the administration of US President Donald Trump. He also noted that the EU has always pursued a policy of military escalation while the US is pushing for a peaceful solution through diplomacy.
The Hungarian leader predicted that there would be a US-Ukraine deal, a US-Russia deal and even a Russia-Ukraine deal, while emphasizing that the EU had "dishamed everything".
Immediately after taking office on January 20, 2025, President Trump immediately launched a diplomatic campaign, making the US an intermediary to resolve the conflict.
According to a recent statement from US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, a complete ceasefire in Eastern Europe will soon be achieved as Trump's phone calls with his two counterparts of Russia and Ukraine continue to show many positive signs.
