The European Union is considering trade measures to target remaining oil imports from Russia.
According to the sources, the EU's executive agency is reviewing the flow of Russian oil transported via the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies to Hungary and Slovakia.
This measure will mainly affect oil supplies via Druzhba if they are not gradually eliminated.
To date, Budapest and Bratislava are still hesitant to diversify Russia's non-oily supplies and opposed measures that threaten domestic energy security.
The plan targets the Druzhba oil pipeline independently of the proposed sanctions against Russia that the EU presented on September 19. The proposed measures include a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas, which will first apply to short-term contracts of six months and then to long-term contracts from January 1, 2027.
Under the package, the EU also proposed sanctions on more than 100 tankers in Russia's shadow fleet, as well as other measures targeting energy trade support organizations, including in third countries.
