The mutual visits of the General Secretaries of the two countries Laos - Vietnam took place immediately after the two countries elevated bilateral relations to the level of "great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion". This is a new point and therefore of great significance.

VNA quoted Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane as affirming that General Secretary To Lam's state visit to Laos on February 5th is of historical and strategic significance, promoting comprehensive integration between Laos and Vietnam in all fields.

According to the Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs, immediately after being re-elected as General Secretary of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade To Lam chose Laos as the first country to visit, which is of particular importance.

Not long ago, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith also made a state visit to Vietnam immediately after Laos successfully organized the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

The Lao Foreign Minister emphasized that the fact that the highest leaders of the two countries regularly have meetings not only reflects the vitality but also clearly reflects the special nature of the relationship between the two countries, a "one-of-a-kind" relationship in the world; helping to create closeness and foster a particularly great friendship. This will also help the young generations of the two countries understand the importance and specialness of the Laos-Vietnam relationship.

Laos - Vietnam's elevation of bilateral relations to the level of "great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion" this time focuses on development, to be commensurate with that special relationship.

Over the past time, the relationship between Laos and Vietnam in terms of politics and defense - security has always maintained its core role, orienting the overall relationship between the two countries. In the coming time, based on the great potential that the two countries have, Laos - Vietnam need to strongly promote cooperation in socio-economic development. Fields such as transportation, energy, economy - trade, logistics, tourism... must all be synchronously connected, including investment projects to create momentum for the growth of the two countries. The two countries need to realize the direction of the senior leaders of the two countries, striving to soon reach the milestone of 5 billion USD, or even higher.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam said that in the context that the two countries have just successfully organized the National Party Congresses of each country, emphasizing and implementing the content of "strategic cohesion" is of particular importance, because this is the process of concretizing the Congress Resolutions through close, synchronous and effective coordination between the two Parties and two States.

According to Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam, regarding the strategic goals of the two sides, the first is to continue to deepen political relations and achieve even higher efficiency.

Second, national defense, security, and foreign affairs are considered pillars of cooperation between the two countries, contributing to maintaining political stability, social order and safety of each country.

Third, regarding economic cooperation, the two sides need to focus on creating a strong and strategic breakthrough transformation.

Fourth, regarding culture, education and human development, the two sides continue to identify this as a sustainable and long-term foundation of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

Fifth, regarding specific cooperation programs and projects, the two sides need to review the implementation of high-level agreements and bilateral cooperation agreements that have been signed; and at the same time identify and promote key and symbolic projects of the two countries' relations, in order to strongly transform political commitments into substantive and practical cooperation results, bringing direct benefits to the people of the two countries.
