On the economic front, by 2024, Vietnamese people in 35 countries and territories have implemented 421 direct investment projects in 42 provinces and cities in the country, with a total registered capital of 1.72 billion USD. In the 2021-2024 period alone, there are 59 projects with a total capital of 118.38 million USD, an increase of 21% in quantity and 75% in capital compared to the 2018-2020 period. In addition to direct investment, overseas Vietnamese also contribute through indirect investment channels, capital contributions, and share purchases.
From 1993-2024, the total amount of remittances transferred to Vietnam is estimated at nearly 250 billion USD. In 2024 alone, the amount of bribes will reach about 16 billion USD, an increase of 32% compared to 2022. Vietnam is in the top 10 countries receiving the largest bribes in the world and is in the top 3 in the Asia-Pacific region. From 2020 to present, the amount of remittances has exceeded the total FDI disbursed capital and ODA. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, each year there were 700,000 to 1 million overseas Vietnamese returning home.
In addition, each year, an average of more than 500 NVN sophisticated intellectuals participate in scientific - technological activities, training, and teaching in the country. Overseas Vietnamese businessmen and intellectuals are also a bridge to promote Vietnamese products, building shopping centers with strong Vietnamese identity such as SAPA (Czech), Dong Xuan (Germany), Phuoc Loc Tho (USA).
Korean charity activities are also spreading more and more. In 2024, right after Typhoon Yagi, the NVNONN community raised a total of more than 57 billion VND to support people in affected areas. The Committee also supported many overseas Vietnamese groups to return to do charity work in provinces such as Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Cao Bang.
The Committee organized a consultation with overseas Vietnamese on the documents of the 13th National Congress, and introduced 18 overseas Vietnamese to join the 10th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and 4 overseas Vietnamese intellectuals to the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Group.
From 2012 to present, nearly 700 overseas Vietnamese from 40 countries and territories have participated in 12 delegations visiting Truong Sa and DK1 Stadium. Thereby, overseas Vietnamese have donated nearly 30 billion VND.
The work of preserving Vietnamese for the younger generation of Vietnamese is focused on. From 2019 to present, the Committee has supported nearly 3 tons of textbooks and Vietnamese language learning books for overseas Vietnamese children. Since 2013, 11 training courses have been organized for Vietnamese language teachers in more than 30 countries; in the 2021-2024 period alone, 720 teachers participated, an increase of nearly 290% compared to the previous period. Vietnamese has been recognized as the second foreign language in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Korea, Taiwan (China).
Since 2022, the Vietnamese honoring day program has been widely implemented. To date, 8 Vietnamese bookcases have been built in France, Japan, Taiwan (China), Hungary...; organized the "Dear Vietnamese" Gala, honored 10 outstanding Vietnamese Propaganda teachers and awarded 12 Commemorative Medals of gratitude to overseas Vietnamese who have contributed to the preservation of the mother tongue.
According to the motto "wherever there are overseas Vietnamese, there is an organization", the Committee actively strengthens Vietnamese associations in France, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Hungary... At the same time, supports the establishment of many new organizations such as the Vietnam Youth - Student Association in Europe, the Vietnam Women's Union in Europe, the Vietnam Global Innovation Network.
The Committee is also the organizer and coordinator of many international events such as the World Young Academy Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City (2019), VietFest in France (2023), Smart Agricultural Workshop in Australia (2023), contributing to spreading the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends.
With more than 1,000 NVNONN associations worldwide, of which about 700 organizations regularly maintain contact with the country, the overseas Vietnamese community is increasingly developing in scale and role.
