The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam said that on September 18, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, a ceremony was held to present humanitarian aid worth 2 million USD from the Korean Government to help Vietnam overcome the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi.
Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Youngsam expressed his deep condolences to the Vietnamese people who suffered losses due to the storm, and said that the Korean Government, as a comprehensive strategic partner and sincere friend of Vietnam, quickly decided to provide humanitarian aid this time.
The aid money will be used to rebuild infrastructure such as houses, roads, medical facilities, schools, etc. in the most severely damaged localities such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, etc. through international organizations.
In addition, Ambassador Choi Youngsam said that many Korean enterprises investing in Vietnam are also actively donating and supporting to help overcome the damage, and proposed to continue strengthening cooperation between the two countries to respond to natural disasters and minimize damage in the future.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed special thanks to the Government and people of Korea as Korea was one of the first countries to announce humanitarian aid to Vietnam after the damage caused by this storm, and expressed that he will do his best to ensure that the aid money is used quickly and effectively, focusing on the localities that suffered damage.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep said he is also actively supporting Korean companies to overcome the damage caused by this storm.
In addition, he expressed his gratitude for the support of the Korean Government in enhancing Vietnam's disaster response capacity through official development assistance (ODA) projects, and expressed his expectation that cooperation between the two countries in the field of disaster response will become increasingly deeper.
