According to Xinhua News Agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on July 25 (local time) called on the European Union (EU) to take decisive action after Ukraine attacked an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea.
The call was made during a phone call between Mr. Araghchi and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in the region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi condemned Ukraine's attack, and called on the EU, the United Nations Security Council and the international community to hold responsible those who carried out the attack and the supporting parties.
The two sides also discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the necessity of diplomatic initiatives to control tensions in the region.
In a separate statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it had summoned the interim representative of Ukraine in Tehran to hand over a diplomatic note protesting and condemning the attack that the country called hostile and criminal.
Earlier the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry informed that the attack by Ukraine caused the ship to explode, killing 1 sailor and injuring another.
The accusation was made at the same time as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces had attacked a Russian warship and ships used to transport military goods related to Iran in the Caspian Sea.
