Iran attacks Amazon data center in the Middle East

Iran said it attacked the Amazon data center in Bahrain after the US airstrike on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant.

On July 21 (local time), the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched a missile attack on a data center of the Amazon technology corporation in Bahrain, considering this an act of retaliation after a US military airstrike on Iran's Darkhovin nuclear power plant.

According to TASS news agency, IRGC said the attack was carried out by multiple cruise missiles, aimed directly at the infrastructure of the Amazon data center in Bahrain.

In a statement published by Iranian state media, the IRGC accused the US of launching an attack targeting civil works and infrastructure under construction in the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant area the day before.

The IRGC affirmed that the attack on the Amazon data center was a direct retaliatory measure against US military action.

In response to the US military's attack on civilian facilities and infrastructure under construction in Darkhovin, we used multiple cruise missiles to attack and destroy the infrastructure of an Amazon data center in Bahrain," the IRGC statement stated.

Currently, the US and Amazon have not made official comments on Iran's statement.

Previously, on July 19, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced that the Darkhovin nuclear power plant in the southwest of the country had become the target of airstrikes carried out by US forces.

Darkhovin is one of Iran's key nuclear power projects and is under construction. Iran has repeatedly affirmed that its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes, while the US and its allies remain concerned about Iran's ability to develop nuclear capabilities.

The new developments raise concerns about the risk of expanding conflict, and may also affect network security, data supply chains and the operations of international technology corporations present in the Middle East.
