On October 26, the Israeli military announced that it had carried out a "targeted attack" on an individual in the central Gaza Strip, who was allegedly planning to attack Israeli soldiers. According to the statement, the target belongs to the Islamic Islamic Jihad group, but the organization has not responded.
The witnesses said they saw a drone attack a car, causing it to catch fire. According to local health workers, there were four injuries, but no deaths have been recorded. Some other witnesses said that Israeli tanks fired artillery into the eastern area of Gaza City, the largest city in the region. The Israeli military has not commented further on this information.
The attack comes as a US-backed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains in effect, more than two years after the war in the Gaza Strip broke out. However, both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement.
Israeli media reported that the country has allowed Egyptian officials into the Gaza Strip to assist in searching for the bodies of hostages kidnapped in the Hamas attack on Israeli communities on October 7, 2023, a spark in the current conflict.
Under the ceasefire agreement, Hamas pledged to return all the hostages it had captured, but there were still 13 bodies that had not been handed over. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office has not yet commented on this new development.
