The Israeli military said the Houthi unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on the city of Eilat in southern Israel injured at least 22 people, including two critical cases.
The Israeli military admitted that its air defense system failed to intercept the Houthi UAV, causing damage in an area on the shore of the Red Sea.
People are required to continue to follow the instructions of the Home Front Command and additional instructions, the Israeli militarys Telegram statement said.
Magen David Adom National Emergency Rescue Service (MDA) said two people were seriously injured due to debris, while others suffered moderate and minor injuries. Police warned people to stay away from the scene due to the risk of explosive remnants.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that this action would cost with a painful blow and had directed the military to study response plans. Defense Minister Israel Katz also threatened the Houthis group that "they will soon have to learn a difficult lesson".
The Yemenese Houthi group later claimed responsibility.
Spokesperson Yahya Saree said that the operation was carried out with many UAVs and "received the target", attacking a number of Israeli targets in the umm al-Rashrash and Bir al-Saba regions (now Beersheba).
Notably, this is not the first time the city of Eilat has been attacked.
Just last week, another Houthi drone also crashed into the area and Israel said it was investigating why the intercept system was not working.
Since Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis have repeatedly launched missiles and UAVs at Israel and its vessels in the Red Sea to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and Hamas.
The group has said it will stop fighting when it reaches a ceasefire in Gaza, where more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed in continuous Israeli airstrikes, according to UN estimates.
Israel responded with several airstrikes in Yemen, including the assassination of the Houthi-controlled prime minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi last month in Sanaa, killing nearly half of the group's cabinet.
