An Atlas Air flight was forced to make an emergency landing after the plane's engine caught fire in the air in Honolulu. The sudden heart attack incident occurred on September 5, after a Boeing 767 took off from Hickman Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii, to Guam.
Mobile phone footage shared by a passenger inside the plane shows the cabin being dark, glowing for a few seconds due to the rays of fire burning the engine near the wing of the plane, KHON2 informed.
A second video filmed by Honolulu residents shows the plane burning fiercely as it took to the air about 4.8 km from Honolulu International Airport. "Oh my god, it's about to fall? Do you see the fire that just splashed from the plane? ", a person in the video panicked.
Local residents said they heard a loud explosion around that time and saw the fireworks sparkle in the air around 9pm (local time).
The pilot decided to make an emergency landing just minutes after the plane took off and fortunately, none of the 212 passengers on the plane were injured.
The aviation official later confirmed that the plane had an engine problem and the case is under investigation.
"A Atlas Air passenger flight landed safely at Honolulu International Airport after a mechanical failure with the engine. At Atlas, safety is always our top priority and we will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause," Atlas Air said in a statement after the incident.
