On September 16, Navi pillay, chairwoman of the UN International independence Commission on occupied Palestinian territory, said that Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, along with several other officials, had "accused of crimes of elimination".
pillay said the conclusion was based on a study of the statements and moves of top Israeli officials. Since they are state representatives, under international law, the responsibility belongs to the State of Israel, pillay said.
In addition to the statements of the leaders, the report also has indirect evidence to reinforce the assessment of the intention to eliminate the epidemic.
The Committee concluded that the Israeli government and security forces intended to destroy all or part of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the document stated.
The report also said that Israeli soldiers "intentionally killed" civilians by using "medicine with widespread destructive power". Finally, the UN Commission concluded that Israel had committed a crime against humanity through the destruction of civilians in Gaza.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry immediately dismissed the report, calling it a fake report and accusing the authors of collaborating with Hamas. Israel's Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Daniel Meron also criticized the conclusion as "composed" and "false".
The war broke out on October 7, 2023, after a Hamas-led attack in southern Israel that killed 1,139 people and took more than 200 hostages, and 48 people are still held in Gaza.
Since then, the heavy raids have killed at least 64,871 Palestinians and injured 164,610, according to the Gaza Health Ministry on September 9.
Meanwhile, according to data in a recent UN report, Israel continued to intensify airstrikes, with at least 41 deaths in September 10 alone, including 37 in Gaza City.
