A Beer Air plane carrying 10 people is believed to have disappeared from radar near Nome, Alaska, and BNO News reported on February 7.
The missing plane is a commercial flight operated by Outer Air, carrying 9 passengers and 1 pilot.
Alaska state police issued an official statement related to the incident, confirming the notice of the plane at 16h on 6.2, local time. The Caravan aircraft on the way from Unalakleet to Nome lost contact.
Officials said the teams search and rescue (SAR) are actively working to determine the final coordinates of the aircraft.
The efforts to search for the plane are currently focused on searching on the ground due to unfavorable weather conditions.
According to Alaska Public Media News, poor vision and icy condition prevented the search in the air. Danielle SEM - spokesman for the non -profit organization of the KaweraK tribe - confirmed, the ground teams are instructing the search.
The Nome Volunteer Fire Department also provided updates on the missing plane, saying it is searching for Nome and White Mountain while continuing to collect the latest information about the situation.
Due to the harsh weather conditions, local officials called on people to avoid making independent search efforts. The NOTE Fire Department emphasized that the safety concern makes it unable to conduct aerial search immediately.
To respond to the missing aircraft, the American Week forces are preparing to deploy the C-130 aircraft to survey the area. The US Air Force confirmed that the air support will be mobilized from the Elmendorf Air Base.
