Al Jazeera reported that on February 26, local officials said that the death toll from the Sudan military plane crash in Omdurman city, a suburb of the capital Khartoum, had increased to at least 46.
On the evening of February 25 (local time), a Antonov crashed while taking off from Wadi Seidna military airport.
The Khartoum Media Office said the accident also injured 10 others. According to an initial report from the Ministry of Health, the number of people killed was 19 and the plane crashed into a house in Karrari district, Omdurman city.
The Ministry of Health said that among the injured were children and all were taken to a nearby hospital by the emergency team for care and treatment.
Major General Bahr Ahmed, a senior commander in Khartoum, was believed to be among the dead.
The Sudan military also issued a notice, confirming that the casualties in the collision included soldiers. The announcement did not specify the cause of the incident, but military sources collected by Reuters said it was likely due to technical errors.
Northern Omdurman said they heard a loud explosion from the plane crash, damaging several homes and causing power outages in several neighboring areas.
