A US newspaper quoted internal documents from the US State Department as saying that the list of 36 countries whose citizens may face US entry ban or other restrictions includes 25 African countries - including Egypt and Djibouti, along with Central Asian countries and the Caribbean.
A memorandum of understanding on the issue was signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and sent to diplomats in charge of the countries on the list.
Previously, President Donald Trump banned citizens of 12 countries from entering the US and imposed restrictions on citizens of 7 other countries.
The ban is fully in place for citizens of Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Myanmar, the Republic of Congo, Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Guinea Xich Dao and Eritrea.
The partial restrictions apply to citizens of Burundi, Venezuela, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Vietnam and Turkmenistan.
The decision takes effect from June 9, 2025.
