The US has achieved the main goals set for the military campaign against Iran, US President Donald Trump announced on July 15.
In an interview on the same day, Mr. Trump was asked whether the main objectives of the campaign, including reducing Iran's military capabilities, ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and ensuring Iran never possesses nuclear weapons, could be achieved with just an air strike campaign. "I think those goals are now accomplished," Mr. Trump said.
He also said that if US forces stop military operations right now, Iran will need 20 years to recover the damage.
On the same day, according to a statement from the US Treasury Department, the country expanded sanctions targeting Iran's oil sector, continuing to target the oil transportation network run by Iranian oil transportation tycoon Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani.
This move comes after US forces conducted airstrikes on Iran for the 4th consecutive day and re-imposed naval blockades. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) reported that Iran attacked ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
