The US military on May 30 (local time) said it had launched a new attack targeting a ship suspected of participating in drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific region, killing 3 men.
In a notice posted on social network X, the South American Command said that intelligence information confirmed that the ship was moving on routes identified as drug trafficking corridors in the Eastern Pacific and was accused of participating in drug trafficking activities.
According to this agency, 3 men whom the US called "drug terrorists" were killed in the operation. The US military affirmed that no US soldiers were injured or in danger while on duty.
The latest incident occurred shortly after a similar attack also carried out by the Southern Command. In the previous attack, the US said 2 people were killed when a ship suspected of being involved in drug smuggling was targeted at sea.
According to published information, after the attack on May 26, 2 survivors were trapped offshore. The Southern Command said that the US Coast Guard had been notified to deploy rescue operations. However, this force has not responded to requests for additional information related to search and rescue work.
The US military also released a black and white video recording the diễn biến of one of the attacks. Images show a ship appearing on the sea surface before the large explosion occurred. After that, the shipwreck caught fire and floated on the water.
These attacks are part of an operation called "Southern Spear", deployed by the US military since the beginning of September 2025. The operation takes place in the context of President Donald Trump repeatedly affirming that the US is in a state of near war with drug gangs operating in Latin America.
