On May 30, answering questions about Vietnam's reaction to the US Trade Representative (USTR) on May 29 announcing the initiation of an investigation under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974 on a number of issues related to the protection and enforcement of Vietnam's intellectual property rights, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated clearly:
Vietnam's views, efforts and results in the field of intellectual property protection and enforcement have been clearly stated in statements on May 1st and May 14th. Strengthening intellectual property protection and enforcement is a consistent policy of Vietnam to build a transparent and healthy investment and business environment, promote innovation and fully implement international commitments.
The USTR initiating the investigation under Section 301 is a procedure carried out under US law. Related issues will continue to be considered based on exchanges and consultations between the two parties during the investigation process.
The spokesperson added that over the past time, the two sides have maintained close exchanges on this issue. The US side positively acknowledged Vietnam's policies as well as steps and measures.
We are ready to continue to consult, share information and clarify policies, regulations as well as measures that are and will be implemented; and at the same time request the US side to assess objectively, fairly, fully recognize the efforts and substantive results of Vietnam, in the spirit of cooperation, construction, in accordance with the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of people, businesses in particular and the two countries in general" - the Spokesperson said.
