Information shared by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with RT India. "Look at the fact that the Americans are planning to restore the damaged Nord Stream pipelines. Under Mr. Biden, the US once declared that these gas pipelines would never operate again. Now, they blame the Ukrainians for the sabotage and the Americans want to buy back the previous ownership belonging to European companies" - the top Russian diplomat said.
Mr. Lavrov noted: "They want to buy at a price only about 1/10 of the amount that the European side has spent. If successful, they will force the Germans to regain their national pride and say: Okay, we will reuse this pipeline. However, the gas price at that time will no longer be based on agreements between Russia and Germany. Instead, the price will be decided by the Americans - who bought the pipeline from the European side.
Earlier, TASS reported on May 7 that Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev emphasized that the fact that those responsible for the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines have not been handled is creating a dangerous chain reaction.
Who is behind this terrorist attack? There is no longer any doubt that the incident is a terrorist act when both we and even the German government have recognized it. However, we still do not know who the perpetrators are. All claims about the yacht and amateur divers are purely fabricated. We must identify who planned and carried out this terrorist act," he said.
The Russian diplomat mentioned the move of the German law enforcement agency regarding the Nord Stream investigation. "Currently, they remain silent on this issue," he said.
The Russian Ambassador warned that not prosecuting responsibility for the Nord Stream sabotage is encouraging further destabilizing actions. He cited incidents related to the Turk Stream pipeline and the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, affecting European oil and gas supplies.
In September 2022, the attack targeting the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines left only 1 branch of Nord Stream 2 intact.
The 1,224km long Nord Stream pipeline connects the Russian city of Vyborg to Greifswald in Germany, with a capacity of 55 billion m3/year.
Nord Stream 2 has an equivalent capacity, completed on September 10, 2021 but has never been put into operation.
