In response to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's statement that the US "has not achieved anything" after a series of airstrikes on Tehran's nuclear facilities, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that Mr. Khamenei is just trying to "keep his figure", while emphasizing that the bombing campaign in the early morning of June 22 has been a "brilliant success".
anyone with conventional knowledge can see the effectiveness of the precise attacks that the US has carried out, Leavitt said. She also affirmed that the results of this campaign led to a ceasefire between Iran and Israel effective from June 24, mediated by the US and Qatar.
The White House's statement came after Mr. Khamenei said that the nuclear targets were not significantly affected and accused President Donald Trump of "exaggerating" when he said he had erased Iran's nuclear program.
Mr. Khamenei also warned that Iran will attack US military bases in the region if it continues to be provincecated, while affirming that Iran "haven defeated Israel and has not subdued the US".
The conflict between Iran and Israel broke out on June 13 as Israel carried out airstrikes on key Tehran targets, including nuclear facilities, scientists, military leaders and ballistic missile programs. Iran responded with more than 550 ballistic missiles and about 1,000 drones targeting Israeli territory.
In the early morning of June 22, the US carried out an airstrike targeting three key Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran counterattacked the next night with missiles at a major US air base in Qatar, but did not cause any casualties. A few hours later, President Trump announced that the two sides had reached a ceasefire.
On June 25, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied the possibility of resuming nuclear negotiations with the US. He affirmed that there were no plans, agreements or conversations conducted regarding the restoration of dialogue.
