"We will send them patriot missiles, which they are in dire need of," President Donald Trump said on July 13.
However, Trump did not specify the number of missiles he would send to Ukraine. "I'm not agreed on the number yet, but they will get some missiles because they need to be protected," he said.
The announcement came just two weeks after Washington announced it would temporarily suspend some arms transfers to Kiev.
The transfer of patriot missiles is part of a new deal that President Trump said would include NATO paying the US for the amount of weapons transferred to Ukraine.
"We will basically send them a lot of very sophisticated military weapons and they will pay us 100% of the cost," Trump said.
US special missionary Keith Kellogg is scheduled to begin his latest visit to Ukraine on July 14.
President Donald Trump also said he will meet NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 14 and will make "an important statement about Russia".
